the streets where I walk on

There is nothing like a little “collective energy” to recharge your creativity. I’m very excited about “The Streets Where I Walk on” a virtual street photography workshop which I hope will inspire my fellow artists. To my photographers and photography-lovers friends out there … this world needs you.

back to basics and the virtual stage

Back to Basics was sort of The Absolute Theater’s “motto” when I first envisioned it. The idea of going back to the tenets of theater and especially, to the concept of the bare stage, is something I’m currently revisiting and repurposing as I develop the idea of the virtual stage for upcoming virtual theater, videos and cross-disciplinary productions for LAT Digital Space.

movement

A fellow photographer once told me this about my work … “while we - other photographers - all strive to capture movement, you have somehow managed to unleash it instead”. Today … feeling not only my own physical limitations but those related to the harsh winter weather in the place I now live, I need to remind myself of his words.

need to shoot

PHOTOS TO ILLUSTRATE THIS NOTES TO MYSELF SECTION AND THE CASTING NOTES VIDEOS

I need to take some self-portraits to illustrate this new section of my website and … at the same time … test different clothing I could wear for the first CASTING STORIES video shoot.

I need to take some self-portraits to illustrate this new section of my website and … at the same time … test different clothing I could wear for the first CASTING STORIES video shoot.

WHY IS THIS RELEVANT? … because some of my best photos have come from what was intended to be a straightforward shoot like these ones. These “subjects” are usually just the starting points … an excuse for me to setup and get in front of the camera … once there … I just follow the flow of energy … if there’s no energy? I will then get some photos I need.

SOME IDEAS I HAD:
- White dress shirt with black pants … no shoes
- In Montréal I used to write these notes all over the mirror doors of the closets … some photo along those lines?

street photography

I have always been a people photographer. There was a time - and this is always the case when I move to a new city where I don’t know anyone - when I had to “steal” glances and public moments of perfect strangers to satisfy my need to “set free” - never capture - those aspects of humanity I find colorful, inspiring, curious or simply put: worth sharing.

The “energy” of the city is a huge motivator for me so - the more people in the city - chances are the energy will be greater and so will be my interest in photographing its streets. But unfortunately, intensity could also be repelling and the energy from people I find uninteresting could block my creativity rather than inspire it.

The thought: as I prepare to go to Los Angeles next week for a photo assignment … could I reconnect with that city’s energy and dust off my street photography skills?

If I will … you’ll be looking at photos on The Lightbox on this website.
