street photography
I have always been a people photographer. There was a time - and this is always the case when I move to a new city where I don’t know anyone - when I had to “steal” glances and public moments of perfect strangers to satisfy my need to “set free” - never capture - those aspects of humanity I find colorful, inspiring, curious or simply put: worth sharing.

The “energy” of the city is a huge motivator for me so - the more people in the city - chances are the energy will be greater and so will be my interest in photographing its streets. But unfortunately, intensity could also be repelling and the energy from people I find uninteresting could block my creativity rather than inspire it.
The thought: as I prepare to go to Los Angeles next week for a photo assignment … could I reconnect with that city’s energy and dust off my street photography skills?
If I will … you’ll be looking at photos on The Lightbox on this website.

The Idea for “Awakening The Energy: Recharging”
Awakening The Energy: Recharging - was the starting point for this series of photoshoots documenting my own process of awakening the energy in order to break through the impermeable shell.
The idea behind this session was to amass as much energy as possible through movement and transcend the limitation of my physical body.

The Idea for “L'artiste à Deux Têtes”
The idea for l'artiste à deux têtes photos came to me while viewing the photos from the “Inside Out” photoshoot. For this “Awakening The Energy” photos, I was trapped inside my own bubble and trying to recharge myself as much as possible as to “break through” the impermeable shell. Because of the material I was using as a shell and the marked and distinct shadows this creating with the lighting, the photos reminded me images from Cocteau’s movies. After going through these photos, I decided I wanted to explore further the idea - this time on purpose - and, do a series of Cocteau-like portraits of myself to go with these photos.

The Idea for “Awakening The Energy: Inside Out”
Awakening The Energy: Inside Out - is the second session from the Awakening The Energy series. After shooting “Recharging”, I thought it would be interesting to play with a “physical shell” rather than just an imaginary one. The large plastic bag I used for these photos not only provide a visual aid for others but more importantly, it helped a great deal in recreating this “bubble” which was both suffocating and isolating, as well as, protective and comforting.
